Definition - What does Environmental Support mean?

Environmental support is a term used to describe the services and other factors near a workplace that contribute to the overall health and safety of the employees at that workplace. Environmental supports are one of the factors considered when evaluating a workplace's overall workplace health promotion performance. The environmental supports available at or near a worksite are one of the factors evaluated when an organization conducts a workplace health promotion environmental assessment.

Workplace health environmental supports can be found in the surrounding community and in the workplace itself. Examples of environmental supports that contribute to workplace health promotion include on-site healthy dining options, nearby mental healthcare facilities, walkways and other physical settings that encourage physical activity, as well as other physical resources that encourage wellness.
